Prayer Needs (2021/06/09)

PRAISE AND THANKSGIVING: “Clap your hands, all peoples! Shout to God with loud songs of joy” Psalm 47:1.  Express to God your praise and thanks for all His goodness.

CONFESSION: “Let us test and examine our ways, and return to the Lord! Let us lift up our hearts and hands to God in heaven.” Lamentations3:40-41. As a nation we need to turn to God in repentance and confession of sin.

PRAYER REQUESTS: “Before they call I will answer; while they are yet speaking I will hear.” Isaiah 65:24.


Church ministries

  • Youth Ministry. This month is Youth Month. Pray for the youth of our country especially in these challenging times of Covid restrictions. Youth meetings take place in 3 locations. Thabiso is leading Youth Alive Murchison. Nathi is leading Youth Alive Home (NSC) and training new leaders. Chad at Youthworx at Shelly Beach. Praise God for what He is doing in the lives of our youth. Pray for wisdom in how to accommodate them all.
  • Kids Church. Shannon and Cherrie doing a great work with the children attending the Sunday services. Kids Church is operating again each Sunday. Pray for wisdom in how to do this with the new restrictions. Junior Youth continues at Youthworx on Friday evenings.
  • Latitude Students. In all their activities and for Johnny Du Plessis who is teaching and guiding these young people.
  • Sunday service 13th June . Currently we have had our numbers reduced to 100 at our morning services. BOOKING IS ESSENTIAL. Online streaming of these services will continue. We are opening other venues for live Sunday services attendance at NSC, if necessary.
  • For Phil and his team as they handle all the technical aspects of the online transmissions in various venues. Also, for the worship team in all their preparations.
  • Cell groups. For all our cell leaders as they share God’s Word each week with their groups. There have been encouraging reports from some of these groups. Pray that God would raise up new Cell Leaders to grow our cell ministry.


  • Khula: Are all back after the holidays and rearing to go. Pray for the various aspects of Khula’s ministries. Khula Creche; Khula Health; Khula Feeding feeds on average 120 kids a day; Khula Teach and Khula Music. Especially for protection from infection in the community. Khula needs blankets for the coming winter season.
  • Baby Home: Jenna McKinnon and her staff. That all the little ones stay healthy and free from infection. Also, for the staff who care for these little ones.
  • Care Centre: Pray for all the changes that are taking place at the Care Centre. The Care Centre is being redesigned into a Frail Care Centre. The new name is Charis Care Centre,
  • Wave of Hope. Pray for Philani Sikobi as he seeks to care for his kids who are surfing again.
  • Safe Place. Pray for all the social workers and the team who operate under challenging situations.
  • Gym and Youth Centre staff as the gyms that they may have a spiritual impact on those who attend.


Personal needs (Please be in prayer for the following people and situations)

  • Roxanne Dicken’s parents Richard Atcha still struggling with cancer, and Michelle Atcha battling with her own health issues.
  • Rodney Pretorius continues to suffer from an auto-immune disease. Please pray for a full recovery for him and protection during this Covid 19 season.
  • For protection on people’s lives, properties, and homes with the increase in violence and crime.
  • For God’s protection over NSC property and staff.
  • Evelyn Bemelman mother Roslyn Swindon continues to suffer with cerebral atrophy.
  • We continue in prayerful support for all the families in our church who are journeying through grief  having lost loved ones. Pray for our GriefShare program each Wednesday evening and Thursday afternoon. Total of 18 in attendance at these two courses being run.  
  • Dawn Steyn’s is progressing well and has been able to walk a little on her own with a walker. Their son Michael Steyn also progressing well while waiting for a kidney transplant.
  • Dawn Clarke (Heather Clarke’s mom) is still critically ill with cancer and her general condition has deteriorated considerably.
  • For John Porter who is being treated for cancer.
  • For Nicky Elliott who is currently being treated for a brain bleed. Doctors say she faces a long road of recovery ahead. Pray also for her 8-year-old daughter Layken and other members of her family.
  • For Jenna McKinnon’s mom Serah Breytenbach who had a hip replacement last week. Has now been rushed back into hospital with difficulty breathing
  • Julie Cronje, Jewel Pulker’s aunt passed away on Sunday from Covid.  Julie’s husband, Johan is still in hospital.  Pray for their family, their daughter Ronelle Maudlin’s husband Dennis passed away from Covid on the 28th May.
  • Hannelie Hancock, Angelique’s aunt is in hospital with Covid but is doing better and might be discharged on Friday.


Church & Church Leadership

  • Pray for the Church leadership in these difficult days of the pandemic. They need  Godly wisdom in all their decision making. Especially with numbers at church services on Sundays.
  • The new church building is almost ready for occupation. One final certificate needed for occupancy. The dementia centre (Charis House) internal finishes progressing well. Pray for the necessary finance to complete these projects.

South Africa:

  • Pray for Government and all the decisions being made in current situation with the Covid-19. Pray earnestly for all corruption to be dealt with effectively in the country. That Godly wisdom would prevail in the passing of laws and regulations.
  • Pray for the Ugu and Eskom issues and the difficulties these present to people deprived of these services.
  • Pray earnestly for the complete eradication of the Coronavirus not only in SA but worldwide. Ask God for His mercy in sparing us from an increase 3rd wave of infections. Please pray that the infection rates would cease increasing and start coming down again. We praise God for the excellent recovery rate still currently standing at 93%. Pray too for the quick recovery of those still infected.
  • For our essential services personal: medical, police, army, and all emergency services that they would be protected from infection.
  • For protection over all teachers and learners in our schools. That all would remain vigilant in wearing masks and sanitizing.
  • That all forms of violence would cease.
  • That the vaccine roll-out would continue to be effectively increased. We thank God that there have been significant increases in numbers and centres opening for the vaccine dispensing to take place. Pray against any corruption or misappropriation of the vaccines.
  • For the recovery of our economy. That with God’s help we may be able to revive our weakening economy, and provide employment for those struggling with financial loss and poverty. For our President as he travels to the UK for the G7 economic conference.
  • That our nation would continue to behave responsibly in social behaviour and Covid 19 protection methods as we go back into Level 2 restrictions. That we may soon be able to move back to greater freedom again. Pray that people’s hearts would turn back to God as they seek Him for healing and deliverance from this pandemic.

  • Cathy Mather-Pike at Siyakwazi protecting the most vulnerable in our communities.
  • Naomi Charlton teaching in Ethiopia with SIM.
  • Jeanette & Heather. Ministering in Mayotte.
  • Candice Downham volunteering with Cathy Mather-Pike at Siyakwazi until August 2021.
